Spanish teacher Bob Miller: GHS September 1960-July 1978
We received this sad news from Retired Spanish teacher Yolanda Lopez:
“Retired Art teacher Carol has asked me to share with you the passing of Bob Miller. Bob taught Spanish at GHS for several years and was my master teacher in the spring of 1974. He lived in Reno, Nevada, where he passed away on September 12, 2024 at the age of 92. He suffered from dementia and passed in a care facility. On December 12, Bob would have been 93. His wife Joan Orrelle (who taught Art at GHS) and daughter Kathleen, were at his side when he passed."
Yolanda remembers Bob: “In September of 1974, I started teaching at GHS and Bob was still there. (I remember that Bob left to teach Spanish at Montgomery High School in the South Bay.) I can say that he was a fluent Spanish teacher. Bob was eager for me to take over his class for my 2nd semester of student teaching in the Spring of 1974. He observed me for one week and then just gave me the class. I took full advantage because I was soooooo ready to teach. That September, I became a Foothiller Spanish teacher, thanks to Bob Miller.”
Connie and Lynn both had Bob for Spanish II.
Connie remembers that Bob was instrumental in Grossmont's participation in Operation Amigo in the 1963, a program that created great excitement on campus. She was a junior that year.
